The home is fragrance-free with no formaldehyde, with real plaster walls (lime, cement and sand without chemical plasticizers) and no paint, no particle board. All electric and low utilities, very energy efficient, and very low EMF. It’s a very unpopulated neighborhood with no lawns nearby (no spraying). The few neighbors are amenable to MCS, and MCS tenants have appreciated the air quality. Overall this is one of the best places I’ve run into in 25 years, and it has improved my health — a pleasant surprise!
Ajo is in a clean air shed of southern Arizona, southwest of Tucson, 35 miles north of Organ Pipe National Monument. There is no industry upwind of the area. It's under a mile to open, clean public land for easy visits to the beautiful Sonoran desert. Also very near BLM land and the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge.
Town and Culture
Ajo is tiny, but with a lot of diversity, with people of all cultures, community centers, and variety of churches. Arts and cultural events are at ISDA, the International Sonoran Desert Alliance. A few facts at the Ajo Chamber of Commerce. Photos at Chamber of Commerce. Wildlife information, museum, talks are at the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge and Organ Pipe National Monument. Article at Atlantic Monthly
A local IGA grocery is in town with a good selection. Ajo CSA, Community Supported Agriculture, delivers fresh locally-grown produce weekly. There is a strong local community garden with more gardens in the works; more info also at Ajo CSA. There's a weekly farmers market at the Plaza
Nearest large groceries (organic and otherwise) are in Phoenix, Maricopa, etc, and Tucson:
